Ever since she graced our screens as the effervescent Marianne in Normal People, Daisy Edgar-Jones’s aesthetic has centered upon her signature curtain bangs. Slightly undone, and seemingly a natural gift of good genes rather than the work of an on-hand hairstylist, it’s a look that mirrors her effortless wardrobe and style—a melange of modern bohemia and understated cool.

It’s surprising, then, to see the On Swift Horses star adopt a fresh, new look—romantic waves instead of her usual soft, undone layers, and an extreme side fringe in lieu of her staple cascading bangs. The new hairstyle, which was created by celebrity hairstylist, Bryce Scarlett, was revealed during the press tour of Edgar-Jones’s latest film, On Swift Horses, which airs later this month, and featured a more polished, put-together finish to the star’s signature style.

Anyone looking to recreate Edgar-Jones’s hair will need to cut the right fringe as a starting point. “A side fringe is actually best cut with a razor, as this encourages the hair to move into the desired direction,” shares Aaron Firmstone, Bumble and Bumble’s national lead educator for U.K. and Ireland. “To get the best effect out of the cut, you want the shortest side to highlight a key facial feature such as the eye or jawline to help enhance your features.”

Styling here is also key and a side fringe does require the work of a few tools and techniques. “The best way to style a side fringe is to blow dry it with a flat brush, starting by brushing all the hair forward then pushing it in the opposite direction to where it should sit, and finishing off by sculpting the ends with a soft bend or flick,” he adds.

Use a Dyson Airwrap to create a uniform “Y” shape to achieve Edgar-Jones’s romantic waves. Finally, as Firmstone adds, “Texture sprays and dry shampoos are the best products to enhance a side fringe.”
