When it comes to choosing a shampoo, I’ll admit that I usually only have one thing in mind: how it smells. While I definitely look at the ingredients and their benefits in shampoo (like bond-building peptides or hydrolyzed silk), fragrance tends to win out. I grew up in the age of shampoo commercials where scent was the major selling point, and to this day, before I commit to using a shampoo for my hair type, I have to be absolutely enticed by the smell.
Luckily, shampoos today smell even better than the ones featured in the shampoo commercials of my youth. I have plenty of favorites, and so do my co-workers. Trust me when I say that if there’s one thing ELLE editors are passionate about, it’s scent. Keep reading for the 12 best-smelling shampoos out there, vetted by ELLE editors whose favorite (and oft-heard) compliment is “you smell so good.”
