Building upon its impressive 30-year legacy of raising awareness for cancer care with its signature Pink Pony initiative, Ralph Lauren has opened a new eponymous Center for Cancer Prevention at USC Norris in Los Angeles. The facility, which began accepting patients earlier this fall, focuses on patient navigation and bridging gaps to provide high-quality care.
This is the third center led by the brand, and the only one currently on the West Coast. (The other two are located in Washington D.C. and New York.) Two years ago, the Ralph Lauren Corporate Foundation made a $25 million commitment to eventually have five cancer centers bearing its name, all serving underserved areas.
The new facility is led by Dr. Chanita Hughes-Halbert, who serves as the Associate Director for Cancer Equity. Having conducted extensive research on Black communities, Dr. Hughes-Halbert has shed light on health disparities in cancer patients, focusing mainly on ways to improve equity among them. Former president Barack Obama appointed her to the National Cancer Institute’s Board of Scientific Advisors in 2012.
With these efforts being made and best-in-class leaders at the helm, we’re that much closer to finding a cure.
