Rom-com lovers, rejoice: Joanne and Noah’s love story is not over yet. Another season of Nobody Wants This is on the way. The Netflix series, which follows a sex-positive podcaster (Kristen Bell) and a rabbi (Adam Brody) falling in love in L.A., charmed viewers far and wide when it debuted at the end of September 2024. The title quickly climbed the streamer’s top 10 chart, garnering more than 10 million views within the first four days of its release. If one thing’s for sure, it’s that Netflix viewers are hungry for more romance.
Here’s what we know about the next season of Nobody Wants This.
Has Nobody Wants This been renewed for season 2?
Yes. Netflix made the news official on Oct. 10, 2024, just a couple weeks after the series’ big premiere. Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria made the announcement at the Bloomberg Screentime Conference in Los Angeles.
Who are the new showrunners of the series?
In addition to the series renewal, Netflix announced new showrunners for season 2: Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan, who previously worked together as executive producers of Girls. Nobody Wants This’s creator, Erin Foster, will continue to serve as an executive producer on Nobody Wants This and shared her enthusiasm in a statement.
“I’m so lucky to be able to continue this story, and to do it alongside Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan, who I’ve been such a fan of since Girls…Justice for healthy relationships being the most romantic!” Foster said.
Konner, who also worked on Welcome to Chippendales and Single Drunk Female, said, “It’s a dream to be working on Nobody Wants This. Erin is the rare creator with a crystal clear voice and a genuinely collaborative spirit. I am a true fan of Erin's show and also feel so lucky to be back in a room with two of my favorites, Bruce Kaplan and Sarah Heyward from Girls.”
And Kaplan, whose credits include Six Feet Under, said, “I am excited beyond belief to be a part of Season 2 of Nobody Wants This, created by the hilarious Erin Foster. It is such a unique and beautiful show and I am already having the best time working on it.”
Nora Silver, President at Jenni Konner Productions, is also joining as an executive producer. According to Deadline, the deals for Konner, Kaplan, and Silver to join were made prior to the series premiere on September 26.
Is the new season filming yet?
Production began on March 7, 2025 in Los Angeles. Netflix shared an official first look at Bell and Brody cuddled up on the couch as Joanne and Noah.
What would Nobody Wants This season 2 be about?
Spoilers below.
The story was created by Erin Foster and is a loosely autobiographical story abut her own experience with meeting her real-life partner. Bell plays Joanne, a podcaster who mainly covers sex and dating. She meets Noah, a rabbi played by Brody. Joanne identifies as agnostic and she is not Jewish, which creates a number of cultural distances between her and Noah’s friends, family, and daily life—especially as Noah tries to move up in the synagogue.
The couple are off-and-on throughout the season, but Joanne ultimately ends things because she doesn’t want to make Noah choose between his role as a religious leader and his relationship with her. But he decides to give up on his dream position as head rabbi to be with her, ending the finale episode with a kiss.
Season 2 will likely deal with the fallout of this major decision and any possible resentments that crop up around his sacrifice. Joanne has also considered conversion, so that might be an ongoing conversation.
Who is in the season 2 cast?
Bell and Brody would have to return, of course, but other recurring cast members include Justine Lupe, Timothy Simons, Jackie Tohn, Emily Arlook, Sherry Cola, Tovah Feldshuh, Paul Ben-Victor, Stephanie Faracy, and Michael Hitchcock.
New additions include Brody’s real-life spouse, Leighton Meester, who will guest star as a character named Abby, “Joanne’s (Bell) middle school nemesis who is now an Instagram mommy influencer,” Variety reports.
Kristen Bell told ELLE.com what it was like having her former Gossip Girl co-star join the series. “I was so genuinely excited that she said yes, because she’s just such a lovely person,” she said in a March 2025 interview. “We had our table read the other day for the episode she’s in, and she is fantastic.
Miles Fowler (Bottoms) will also guest-star in season 2 as Lenny, “Noah’s (Brody) Matzah Ballers teammate who gets set up with Morgan (Justine Lupe),” according to Variety.
Arian Moayed (best known as Stewy from Succession) and Alex Karpovsky (a.k.a. Ray from Girls) are also joining season 2, according to Deadline. Per the outlet, Moayed will have a “major arc” as Dr. Andy, “a charming, highly regarded (particularly by himself) psychotherapist who might just be the perfect match for Joanne’s (Bell) sister Morgan (Lupe);” while Karpovsky will play Big Noah, an “overly confident rabbi” at Noah’s temple.
When will season 2 be released?
The new season will premiere on Oct. 23, 2025. The cast and crew broke the news yesterday at Netflix’s FYSEE Emmy event in Los Angeles.
