THE RUNDOWN:
- On August 26, Zoë Kravitz and Austin Butler attended the New York premiere for their new movie, Caught Stealing.
- The actress wore a custom Saint Laurent ensemble referencing a look from the house’s spring 1990 runway.
- Butler sported a full leather suit from Givenchy by Sarah Burton.
While the US Open is well underway, across town, an equally fashionable event took place last night at the Regal in Union Square for the New York premiere of Darren Aronofsky’s latest movie, Caught Stealing. The film follows the chaotic underworld adventures of a ’90s grunge-era Austin Butler and Zoë Kravitz, joined by a neon-mohawked Matt Smith and featuring a guest appearance by Bad Bunny. If the trailers make anything clear, it’s that each character embodies a gritty, downtown style reminiscent of a lost era of NYC—and the premiere looks channeled that same energy.
Kravitz—who has recently reignited plenty of ’90s trends, like athletic shorts—wore Saint Laurent. The charcoal two-piece ensemble was custom, but a direct reference to the long-sleeve crop top and V-waisted skirt that Yasmeen Ghauri wore on the runway for the brand’s spring 1990 collection. The look was both laid-back and sleek, mimicking the restrained minimalism of many of her recent press tour looks, including a Saint Laurent champagne lace slip she wore just last week.
Butler’s look was no exception to the theme. He wore a full leather suit (previously unreleased) from Givenchy by Sarah Burton. Styled by Ryan Hastings, the actor opted for no shirt and a classic pair of dress shoes, letting the suit be the main event. Though Burton hasn’t officially delved into menswear during her brief time at Givenchy as of yet, she’s offered rare glimpses on the red carpet (take, for example, Timothée Chalamet’s butter-yellow suit that he wore to the Oscars). Meanwhile, Bad Bunny kept it classic, also sporting a full look from Saint Laurent’s spring 2025 menswear collection. The button-down and tie were layered beneath a mesh tank top, subtly nodding to pre-2000s three-piece suit styling.
