Welcome to Same Same But Different. As Gen Z and millennial fashion commerce editors, respectively, we know a thing or two about shopping—for all ages, and especially our demographics. As we find the best products for you, we can’t help but do a little shopping for ourselves and build our personal (age-appropriate) wish lists. And now, we’re sharing them with you. Ahead, check out what’s in our hearts and in our carts lately.
Dale Chong: It’s hard to believe that the end of 2024 is upon us. But that does mean it’s time to talk holiday party dressing. How are you feeling as the season approaches?
Meg Donohue: The entire year flew by! And quite frankly, I’m ready to see 2024 go. I will be celebrating in full force at this year’s functions. There are few occasions where one can really throw caution to the wind sartorially, but the winter holidays are definitively on that list. I’m admittedly excited about these outfits I’ve dreamt up, starting off with a red and black ensemble. I’ve been digging Marc Jacobs’ Kiki boots, and I think this might be the perfect occasion for them.
I recommend that anyone reading this has a little black dress and a pair of red tights in their closet. How about you?
DC: Those boots are amazing. I must confess, I love a sparkly moment just as much as anyone else. I’ve been eyeing this incredible sequin top from Miu Miu, which I can—and will—style with pretty much anything in my closet (shout-out to my current favorite: the Alex Mill Relaxed Wide Leg jeans). It’s the right amount of glitz without feeling too on-theme.
For a holiday party where denim might not be an option, I’ll be sporting my favorite trousers from the Danish brand mfpen—man, do they do suiting right. Paired with a classic kitten heel and this incredible Sandy Liang bag, I have a look that can take me from the office to happy hour, and maybe a cocktail party as well.
MD: Definitely a cocktail party, in my opinion. Regarding sparkles, I relate! To add a bit of glitz to my own wardrobe, I can’t resist these little black briefs. Styled under a semi-sheer dress? Hot. I recently saw someone on Instagram use the phrase “Bond girl winter,” and I’m so very into it. Lastly, I’ve opted for flat boots—although this look could easily be paired with heels—because: dancing.
Would I wear this to my family’s Christmas dinner? Hell no. But there’s a time and a place for everything. Now, tell me about your second outfit.
DC: I love the concept of a Bond girl winter, and I think that’s precisely the energy we need this time of year. For more low-key occasions, I’ll be mixing the texture of this sequin Tory Burch skirt with the soft and cozy look and feel of a simple cardigan—in red, because I’m telling myself I’m going to wear color this winter—and, if the weather allows, I’ll be making the rounds in these ultra-flattering strappy heels. As for my pièce de résistance? This shimmering metallic number from Rabanne. It’s been living rent-free in my mind all year, and I think I might need to treat myself one more time before 2025.
MD: After all, what’s the point if you can’t indulge a little every now and then? Buy the bag, I always say.
