18 Cute and Comfortable Clogs to Finish Off Your Summer Wardrobe

Level up your look without cramping your style.

By Shannon Adducci

If building an outfit was like making a sandwich, comfortable clogs would be something like horseradish. Neither is the most elegant of ingredients, but both add a certain structure—and zip—to the equation. In the canon of footwear, clogs are a quirky classic with a history nearly as long as the existence of shoes themselves (the wood-soled kicks have been used for everything from farming to theater, and modern versions nod to the Dutch klompen and Swedish träskor).

In fashion, the clog has transformed itself to become a perfect candidate for the wrong shoe theory, a hack that stylist Allison Bornstein has used to explain how unexpected footwear choices can be the special sauce to any outfit.

Brands, too, have taken to the trend. When Hermès debuted its own clog (a simple wood-soled mule with nailhead trim) a few years ago, it became a cult shoe—and it still commands hefty resale prices while fans wait for the fashion house to bring it back. At Chloé, newly installed creative director Chemena Kamali is resurrecting the boho-luxe vibe one wood-soled shoe at a time: First, with a wedge sandal that all of the front row wore to her Paris Fashion Week debut; now, as a heeled clog that the designer herself has been seen wearing.

One clear winner in the comfortable clogs category is the Birkenstock Boston. The close-toed mule combines a clog’s signature roomy, bulbous shape with the molded footbed comfort of orthopedic footwear to create a cult classic.

But it isn’t just orthopedic footbeds that make clogs doctor-approved. While a molded insole is a key detail that professionals look for in healthy footwear, even a wood-soled clog can be a good option. “A wood or wood-like rigid sole can be excellent because of its intrinsic structure, creating a topographic map for your foot,” says Dr. David Levine, a foot and ankle surgeon at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. “Many clogs have a heel or a thickness in the back. That little elevation can help to relax the calf muscles.”

Below is a lineup of the most comfortable clogs on the market—all chosen based on a combination of comfort, cushioning, structure, durability, balance, buzz, and, of course, style.

The 250-year-old German footwear brand has incorporated its world-famous orthopedic footbed into a variety of styles, but the Boston clog has become the fan favorite over the past few years, beloved for a closed-toe box that accommodates most foot shapes and needs. The Boston Big Buckle takes materials and hardware up a notch for a more polished look that can be dressed up or down.

The buzz has been on all of those mesh and studded ballet flats, but somewhere along the way Alaïa's clog mule also became a cult shoe for the brand. High-heeled clogs can be a tricky pick, but Free People’s Mallory clog gets rave reviews for its stability and comfort, due to its criss-cross leather straps, which are secured with nailhead trim, all on a wooden platform with a stacked heel.

  • Wearable pitch

Cons

  • Platform height requires balance

Consider Chloé's wedge clog the next chapter of viral footwear for the French fashion brand under its new direction of creative director Chemena Kamali. The Jeannette wedge clog has the same platform shape as the wedge sandal (worn by front-row A-listers to the Chloé fall/winter 2024 show at Paris Fashion Week) but also comes with luxe substantial gold hardware in a sleek buckle and nailhead trim.

Pros

  • Glove-like feel
  • Anatomical footbed

Cons

Leave it to The Row to take a classic unfussy clog style and give it the quiet luxury treatment. Taking inspiration from a certain orthopedic footbed silhouette, the brand uses suede on both the rounded-toe uppers and the insole for the made-in-Italy shoe, resulting in a feel that’s something like putting an expensive, supple pair of gloves on one’s feet.

    Sizes: 36-42

    Colors: Black, Ash

Material: Calf suede with a rubber sole

    Pros

    • Lightweight
    • Waterproof

    Cons

    • Clunky toe box
    • Unlined

The Italian luxury brand has managed to keep its momentum going thanks to a crop of quirky It shoes, including its Flash mule, which infuse a clog’s bulbous toe into a molded stacked heel, all done in a lightweight rubber. The shoe’s small platform on a 3.7-inch stacked heel gives it a wearable pitch, and the all-rubber material means the clog can double as a rain boot.

    Sizes: 4-13

    Colors: Caramel, Black, Deep Brown

Materials: Leather upper with suede-covered cork footbed and rubber sole

Customer review: “They are probably one of the most comfortable pair of shoes I own and the fit is great. I love that you can dress them up or dress them down. The gold buckle detail makes the shoe.”

    Dansko Berry Slip-On Mule Clog

    Berry Slip-On Mule Clog

    Pros

    • Arch support
    • Allows for hours of standing
    • Convertible heel strap

    Cons

    • Runs small

A beloved shoe in the nursing and healthcare communities, Dansko’s clogs are known for their arch support and rocker-like construction, which helps wearers to stand comfortably all day long. The Berry style incorporates the brand’s signature memory foam insole into a classic clog style, done in a stapled leather. Bonus: The shoe’s front buckle detail converts to a heel strap in the back.

    Sizes: 4.5-13

    Colors: 8 options

    Materials: Burnished nubuck leather

Customer review: “They went from the box directly to my feet for a two week vacation. Wore them on sunny days, drizzle rain, real rain and cold days. My feet were happy at the end of each day.”

Designed by podiatrist Caroline McCulloch, Frankie4’s shoes include a contoured footbed to ensure a custom-like fit. Well, the Margot slide is no exception; it comes with a specifically placed foam lining (made from recycled plastic bottles, no less) that is designed to alleviate pressure and rubbing on the skin.

      Sizes: 6-13

      New Heights Clog

      Pros

      • Warm and cozy

      Cons

There’s not much to say about a pair of Uggs that hasn’t already been said, especially when it comes to the brand’s unbeatable comfort and coziness. The New Heights clog takes the comfort of the Ugg Boot and the ease of its sister Scuffette to give you a clog rocker silhouette on an EVA platform for a look that feels like more than a slipper.

      Sizes: 5-12

      Colors: Black, Chestnut and Sand

Materials: Suede upper with 100% recycled polyester microfiber liner and an EVA sole.

      Original Collection Joy Platform Clog

      Pros

      • Foam insole
      • Antimicrobial

      Cons

Turns out your middle school shoe is actually still great—and even better. The footwear and foot health brand has added an anti-microbial, anti-odor foam insole to its clogs, using its plant-based Bloom material. Meanwhile, its leather uppers are responsibly sourced from Leather Working Group certified tanneries, linings are made with materials recycled from plastic bottles, and Dr. Scholl’s plants one tree for each pair of shoes sold to offset its carbon emissions and wood use.

        Sizes: 6-11

        Colors: 12 options

Material: Leather Working Group-certified leather, wood soles, lining materials from recycled plastic bottles and plant-based foam insoles.

Customer review: “I love these sandals. They go with everything and give any outfit a special flair. They are comfortable to walk in as well. They took a few wears to break in - at first the inner sole feels a bit slippery contacting my foot, but after a few wears they felt more grippy. I wear them almost every day.”

        Polished Classic

        Penelope Chilvers Horsebit Clog

        Horsebit Clog

        Pros

        • Classic shape

        Cons

The Royals-approved British shoe designer’s take on a vintage-inspired clog slide has all the luxe accouterments: polished leather, nailhead detailing on the midsole, and silver horsebit hardware. Bonus: It channels the look of a certain French luxury brand whose popular clogs are no longer available.

        Leather Clog

        Pros

        • High-end materials

        Cons

        • No cushioning

The brand may be best known for its sneakers when it comes to footwear, but the Italian luxury label has applied its equally adept experience in leather goods to create a near-perfect clog that follows a classic silhouette and keeps materials high-end, with a supple leather upper complete with a substantial gold-tone buckle on the vamp, a leather footbed, and a traditional wooden rocker sole outfitted with rubber on the bottom for traction.

        Sizes: 35-40

        The Posh Croc

        Crocs Dylan Mule

        On Sale
        Dylan Mule

        Pros

        • Molded heel cups
        • Easy to clean

        Cons

        • Plastic material

While Crocs fans often love the brand’s oversized holes for ventilation (and Jibbitz, of course), the perforated style can be a no-go in certain workplaces that demand safety requirements on footwear and gear. The Crocs Dylan clog fulfills the closed-toe prerequisite and goes further to improve its beloved clog style by adding molded deep-heel cups that help to keep the foot cradled in position, especially while standing. The Dylan style also swaps the cartoonish look of the brand’s signature clog and replaces it with a more subtle, dare we say, quiet luxury look, done in a muted color palette.

        Sizes: 4-17

Colors: Mocha, Light Grey, Moss, Quartz, Dark Cherry

        Material: EVA (plastic)

Customer review: “If you’re a Croc gal or love Crocs in general these are perfect for any occasion. The fit, the comfortability, price is worth the item. Easy to clean, I wear them at work and at home.”

        Aerosoles Faye Clog

        On Sale
        Faye Clog

        Pros

        • Wear-all-day
        • Molded footbed

        Cons

        • Synthetic sole

Aerosoles took its Diamond Flex outsole and inset cushioned footbed and shaped them into a clog style with a slight rocker silhouette, complete with a rounded-toe suede upper and oversized gold-tone grommet details. The slide reads as a cross between a mule clog and a scuff slipper—with the comfort of the latter. The slip-on shoe has a 1.75-inch heel, giving it just enough height to wear with everything.

        Sizes: 5-12

        Colors: Black, Brown, Cream

Materials: Suede upper with flexible thermoplastic sole

Customer review: “Amazing! My favorite pair—super comfy & stylish. They’re already on high rotation!”
