1Tom Ford
Victor VIRGILE//Getty ImagesTo close out NYFW, Tom Ford served us a sexy nightcap and a disco bride to boot. There was razor-sharp silk and brocade suiting in pastel metallics, barely-there mesh tops with sequin appliqués, and spectacularly tacky Bermuda shorts with even more sequin patches. Dan LeccaMarkarian’s SS23 collection, unveiled at the Ukrainian Institute of American on the Upper East Side—a stunning and symbolic venue, and, yes, also the Valmont house in Cruel Intentions—was inspired by Italian Renaissance art. Influences can be seen indirectly in yellowy palettes, and more explicitly via a white linen mini dress with a train and gold embroidery inspired by Botticelli’s Primavera.—Claire Stern, digital deputy editor

Hannah Turner Harts/BFA.comDesigner Edvin Thompson of Theophilio presented his “Homecoming” collection on the last day of NYFW, drawing on his Jamaican roots and mixing it with his take on American sportswear for one of the sexiest shows of the season. Adut Akech and Precious Lee walking? Check. “I <3 TP” shirts riffing on the classic “I <3 NY” shirts? Check. Custom headpieces, graffiti prints, and snakeskin pants? Check. Thompson did what few designers can pull off, creating a runway show that is as aspirational as it is instantly buyable. We’re already looking forward to next season (and buying a handbag and tee).—Kevin LeBlanc, fashion associate

George Chinsee//Getty ImagesSome of the best fashion shows are those that look and feel like breathing art installations, rather than a simple sneak peek at next season’s shopping racks. Wiederhoeft’s SS23 show managed to do both, its fantasy-inspired pieces both too wild for this world and too gorgeous not to covet. Neon corsets bounced alongside tulle capes and feathered leggings as a pair of ballet dancers twirled in a makeshift playground dreamt up by designer Jackson Wiederhoeft. The best looks featured a Joan of Arc-like cowl and coordinating chainmail; a shimmering tulle gown with an exposed-boning hoop skirt; and a cleaner—but no less dramatic—neon pink dress with matching mohawk.—Lauren Puckett-Pope, associate editor

Rodin Banica//Getty ImagesAliétte presented a downright dreamy collection, with creative director Jason Rembert taking inspiration from the rose and giving the women in his life their flowers. This translated literally with 3D rose motifs, as well as lush and organic textures. Much of his brand is based around his one-of-a-kind hand embroidery, which was on display in vibrant hues of pink and orange. Here’s to Rembert keeping things impossibly fresh.—Kevin LeBlanc, fashion associate

19Michael Kors Collection
JP YimJust in case you needed a reminder of who’s on top of American fashion, Michael Kors drove home his vision for modern-day sportswear with a super-chic runway show. Not only was the front row stacked with celebs (hi Serena, Anne, and Lori!), the show was jam-packed with references to one of the chicest designers of all time, Elsa Peretti, paying homage to her Italian seaside flair with fringe skirts, large looped belts, huge arm cuffs (which we’re hereby calling the accessory trend of the season), and classic Kors suiting. Presented in a jungle right in the heart of Meatpacking, we’re suddenly inspired to plan our next tropical getaway, stat.—Kevin LeBlanc, fashion associate
