Silk scarves are the unsung heroes of summer styling, and this summer is all about styling. We’re always on the hunt for ways to update our tried and true (and sometimes tired) outfit combinations. Yesterday, Lola Tung stepped out in New York City wearing a Coach logo-printed silk scarf, only it was tied around her waist, adding dimension to her plain white tank top and printed trousers. The Summer I Turned Pretty actress isn’t alone in this trend—one glance down any cobbled street with outdoor dining in the West Village and you can immediately spot a handful of sarong-inspired scarves.
Unsurprisingly, style Substacker Leandra Medine Cohen of The Cereal Aisle was eons ahead of the curve. Last August, she declared that “a silk scarf could be the key to good summer styling.” Not only does it break up your silhouettes, hide waistlines that might not zip all the way—it brings an otherwise unexpected pop of color to simpler outfits.
In short, we couldn’t agree with Medine Cohen more. If you need further encouragement, consider style icon Alexa Chung, who recently wrapped a scarf over a white T-shirt and baggy jeans. Paired with loafers and a Gucci bag, the ensemble was immediately elevated.
