When it comes to perfume, we all have different preferences on what we like best. Some people might prefer soft floral fragrances, while others naturally gravitate toward warm gourmand scents. Though perfume is timeless, you can think of it like an accessory—it’s fun to mix it up and follow the trends.
Most of the overarching perfume trends for 2025 involve food in some way (think vanilla, grapefruit, nuts, and even salt), and the best fragrances for spring are no different. Of course, since it's spring, expect to also smell lots of floral-forward and airy fragrances as well. We tapped perfumers to let us know which fragrance trends will be front and center this season. Keep reading for the best scent trends that will bring us into late spring and early summer.
Unexpected Fruits
Fruity scents have been dominating this year, but the best part about the fruity infusions is that many of them are unexpected. It’s no longer just bergamot and black currant—this year, scents have been dabbling in notes like guava, cherry, apricot, and more. “Fruits are a nice segue from gourmands as they are joyful, easily recognizable in a scent and also they’re just plain fun,” says Bee Shapiro, founder of Ellis Brooklyn.
Aromatherapy
“Fragrances are increasingly being seen as an extension of self-care, or ‘soul-care,’” says Delphine Jelk, Guerlain perfumer. “Consumers are seeking scents that not only smell good but also contribute to their overall well-being. This trend blurs the lines between perfume and personal care, focusing on ingredients that have beneficial properties for the body and mind.” Look for fragrances with notes known to soothe or invigorate, like lavender or cucumber.
Airy Florals
We know, we know—florals for spring. Groundbreaking. But you can still wear a floral scent that feels different by opting for something airy and light, rather than a more powdery traditional floral. “The return of floral scents has been interesting as I think brands are finding their new modern interpretations of classic ingredients like rose,” says Shapiro.
Elevated Gourmands
This trend merges playful notes with more adult ones—Jelk calls it “luxurious sin.” “Luxurious sin is all about indulging in scents that are both pleasurable and sophisticated,” she says. “This trend combines gourmand notes, which are often associated with childhood and comfort, with more adult and luxurious elements. The result is a fragrance that is both playful and elegant, appealing to the senses in a unique and captivating way.”
Solid Perfume
Consider solid perfumes the perfect travel accessory. Not only do they fit in your pocket, they’re also incredibly cute. Plus, since they’re formulated in oil or wax, they also tend to last longer on your skin. Many brands have recently come out with solid perfumes that look just as beautiful as they smell.
