She's the 23-year-old that first landed on our screens in dark thrillers such as Split and Glass but this month, Anya Taylor-Joy stars in the comedy-drama remake of Jane Austin's Emma, out just in time for Valentines Day.

But what's the US-born, English and Argentinian actor up to when she's not dominating the big and little screens? ELLE sat down with the face of Viktor & Rolf perfume to talk all things beauty, including what's in her make-up bag and her most unusual beauty tricks (turns out we've been using olive oil wrong this whole time...).

I hit the sack at…

...8pm ideally, but realistically around 11.30pm; my brain won’t shut up!

I wake up at...

...4am, thanks to my current shooting schedule.

The first thing that past my lips is...

...black coffee, no messing. It's never too early for coffee.

My make-up routine...

...takes no time. I wash my face, follow with SkinCeuticals Mineral Radiance UV Defense SPF5O, £41 – it’s tinted, so gives you a little something while protecting skin. If I’m going out, I’ll pop on Lancôme’s Hypnôse Mascara and a purple lip. I use SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective when I’m nervous and cameras are going off – it calms down my redness.

I exercise...

...the whole day feels like exercise, waking up at 4am and going straight to work. I want to get back into ballet and hip-hop dance classes. They help me to focus on one moment clearly.

When I look in the mirror I see...

...someone in control. I’m normally giving myself a pep talk: ‘You need to get out and do this now.’ I’ve suffered from anxiety, so it’s important to tell myself I’m doing my best.

My last beauty buy was...

...YSL Beauty’s Touche Éclat. A fan once left a note that said: ‘I wanted to say hello but you looked so tired.’ I was like: I’ll work on it.

My fridge is filled with...

...apple cider vinegar. I have one instead of a beer.

Craziest thing I've done for beauty...

...is spending 9.5 hours at the hairdresser to dye my hair black. I looked like a satellite with all that foil in my hair.

My biggest beauty indulgence is...

...candles. I was on the verge of an anxiety attack, and I ran in to Diptyque and bought some ridiculously expensive candles. It’s the most absurd thing I’ve done.

Tell us a beauty secret...

...I coat myself in olive oil when I get sunburnt or have a bruise. My mum taught me to do it when I was little.

I deal with stress by...

...taking a step back and saying: ‘No one is dying. You’re not a surgeon. Everything will be fine.’

Vanity is...

...a word used wrongly to try to put women in a box. If you care about the way you look, go for it, live your life.

My last treatment...

...was cryotherapy. I’m into anything ridiculous.
