If you thought sustainable beauty had to be low-tech and the opposite of luxury, then think again.

Changing the previously homely face of eco-friendly beauty is Net-A-Porter's newly launched Net Sustain - an edit of all things 'clean' hair, make-up and skincare that also happen to be high end.

Championing 27 beauty brands (alongside a selection of fashion brands), Net Sustain considers a product's materials and ingredients, production methods, wastage, craft and community, vegan and animal welfare, and also whether it has been locally sourced, to form a planet-friendly offering that takes into account every facet of ethical beauty. Each product on offer has been individually vetted and ticks at least one of these boxes.

'This is an exciting moment for us and the industry as a whole as anything that gives customers more clarity on what they are buying and to help them make more conscious choices in how they shop is a positive thing,' Net-a-Porter’s global beauty director Newby Hands told Harper's Bazaar.

'It will also assist them in aligning with their wider lifestyle such as choosing vegan skincare to go alongside a vegan diet.'
