What I'm Packing As A Beauty Editor Going To Glastonbury For The First Time

No, it's not festival glitter.

By

Glastonbury veterans will tell you that a battery pack, blister plasters and a carabiner clip are all the essentials you really need to survive the UK's largest four-day festival. But as a beauty editor preparing for their first foray into the world of Glastonbury, the items topping my own packing list look a little, well, different.

Because, while I might not be able to confirm the best footwear for the some hundred mile step count, nor the best roll mat and sleeping bag to withstand erratic weather, I do know what beauty items you might need to pack, be it for the joyful make-up touches for which Glastonbury is synonymous or when you reach 'peak-festival'. I can tell you about the beauty trends that are likely to dominate this year, the hybrid skincare formulas to know and the clever hacks capable of making three day-old hair look brand-new.

So if it's the latter you're looking for, read on for my own festival beauty packing list and a few beauty hacks from the experts along the way, too...

1

Sun Bum Texturizing Sea Spray

Sun Bum Texturizing Sea Spray

Baking in the sun whilst you're listening to a Dua Lipa set is all well and good until someone gets burned. And I'm not talking about your face, but your hair and scalp. This clever spray works as a hybrid sea salt spray to breathe fresh life into overly partied strands while also protecting your mane with factor 30, meaning you don't have to worry about getting scorched after a day revelling in the sunshine.

Vieve Eye Wand

Vieve Eye Wand

'People are experimenting more with colourful eye make-up as we approach festival season as it's a fun, easy way inject colour into your make-up routine,' says make-up artist Jamie Genevieve. According to Genevieve, one of the biggest trends we're going to see this summer are pastels. This lilac eye wand is a winner when it comes to colour payoff and is so easy to blend with your fingers. As a make-up minimalist, it's truly inspired me to start embracing more colour.

Those familiar with the hairwashing perils of curtain bangs will know that a fringe is the first place to show signs of greasiness. If that's you, I could not recommend these compostable hair wipes more: an easier, more festival-friendly alternative to dry shampoo, they instantly eliminate oil from the roots and touch up fringes in seconds.

Garnier Cryo Jelly Face Mask

Garnier Cryo Jelly Face Mask

Anyone who has spent 36 hours on a field knows that even just a tiny moment of self-care can make the world of difference when you've reached your festival limit, the glitter has rubbed off and you're feeling like your less-than-shiny self. This anti-fatigue sheet mask is super cooling, takes 10 minutes and is enriched with hydrating hyaluronic acid to bring back your glow.

A silk eye mask might teeter into high-maintenance territory, but when the sun is shining at 6am into your tent you'll be grateful you packed it on a whim.

Sunday Riley Pink Drink Firming Essence

Sunday Riley Pink Drink Firming Essence

One of my all-time favourite face mists, this is the beauty equivalent of a big glass of water for your skin. Keep it handy in your bag throughout the day, and spritz when your skin and mind begin to tire. It's packed with invigorating ingredients and is the perfect pick-me-up when you're starting to flag.

InstaMelt Day Dissolver Wipes

InstaMelt Day Dissolver Wipes

It's no secret that face wipes are terrible for the environment, which is why I'll be opting for a more sustainable option. These dissolvable make-up wipes mean you can take off your make-up with ease when the double cleanse has gone out the window. They're gentle on the skin and kinder to the planet so it's a no-brainer, really.

Susanne Kauffman answered all our prayers when she launched a cooling body mist. If temperatures peak, or you're feeling a little less fresh than normal, spritz this over your body for an instant refresh.

Kitsch Satin Heatless Curling Set

You might have to sleep looking slightly dubious, but it's the price to pay to wake up with supermodel waves... this heatless curling set is a must if you still want to look like you've made an effort when really you've made none at all.

Taking care of your dermis might not be top of the priorities list. That said a little goes a long way and SPF should be at the forefront of your festival skincare routine. 'I think my main tip for festival skincare is thinking about a spray sunscreen to use as a moisturiser but also as a protectant; these can be SPF30 or SPF50 but as long as you are happy to reuse them every few hours and they don’t sting your eyes, that would be my top tip,' shares CeraVe Consultant Dermatologist, Dr Angela Tewari.

Shiseido ControlledChaos MascaraInk

Coloured mascara has been making waves after a resurgence on the runway. If you're wanting for a fresh way to take 0n festival make-up (minus the glitter), go for asphalt blue or berry mascara - it's subtle but statement making all at once.

The Take-out One Invisible Sun Stick

The Take-out One Invisible Sun Stick

Two words: sun stick. If every 2-hour application doesn't seem feasible, pop this in your bag so you can swipe across areas prone to sun burn throughout the day. That would be your nose, feet, and ears, FYI.
