Everything You Need To Know About Margot Robbie's 1960s Barbie Ponytail

Margot Robbie's catalog of perfectly pink Barbie promo ensembles have created quite the moment, particularly when it comes to time-transcending beauty looks. Whether it's an easily replicable modern manicure, or a playful set of crimped extensions, Greta Gerwig's upcoming blockbuster has paved the way for hyper-feminine make-up, hair and nail looks to take centre stage this summer. The latest to capture our attention? The effortlessly chic 1960s ponytail she sported for the world premiere in Los Angeles this week.

The timeless hairstyle consisted of a glossy ponytail at the crown of her head, with voluminous doll-like waves and a side swept pin curl, courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Bryce Scarlett; the bouncy vintage 'do drew inspiration from the ultra glamorous Solo in the Spotlight Barbie. 'I was inspired to do this doll-like ponytail from the 1960s to coordinate with her stunning '60s-inspired custom Schiaparelli gown,' he says.

To create the look, Scarlett prepared and detangled her lengths with Redken's Quick Blowout and an array of Tangler Teezer tools, before drying and setting the hair with velcro rollers. Once cooled, he sectioned the ponytail, leaving two inches at the hairline around the entire head and smoothed and secured the inner ponytail with hair ties. He then set the entire ponytail into two-inch curls, as well as the sections left out of the ponytail, and brushed them out into soft waves, while sharping the fringe area and the ponytail into a polished yet full finish.

Robbie subverted her now signature pink wardrobe in favour of a dazzling back Schiaparelli gown, a custom creation inspired by the same iconic Barbie, which featured layers of tulle and a delicate hand-painted embroidered rose. The star stepped onto the red carpet in complete embodiment of the doll, holding the same delicate light pink silk mousseline scarf that was sold with the original toy in the 1960s.

The stylish pony is far from Robbie's first notable hair moment this tour. The Australian 33-year-old channelled Barbie's 1992 Totally Hair doll during another event at Four Seasons Hotel, Mexico City, this week – debuting a set of lengthy extension and playful nineties crimp curves.
