Whether galvanised by the heatwave or a forthcoming Glastonbury adventure, Alexa Chung has undergone a summer hair transformation and the results are as fiery as this week's weather forecast. Now in her 'ginger chocolate' era, the presenter, model and designer described her new hue as resembling Gin Gins, the sweets she's devoted to.
But whether 'electric brown' or 'gingey brun' (other terms she put forwards for the look on Instagram), the warm brunette colour certainly suits the star, who showcased it alongside a jewel green Nensi Dojaka dress at the Serpentine Summer Party in London on Tuesday night.
It was the work of Alex Brownsell, visionary hairstylist and founder and creative director of Bleach London – the salon chain and product brand dedicated to boundary-pushing colour. In true Chung style, though, the look is understated. While more fashion-forward than her former clean brunette, it still reads natural and low-maintenance which lends itself perfectly to her signature sartorial nonchalance that many so admire.

Whether it will rekindle a resurgence in last year's 'cowgirl copper' red hair movement (as seen on myriad stars, from Dua Lipa at the extreme end to Sydney Sweeney at the other) remains to be seen. But no doubt Chung is one of many who will opt for warmer tones in line with the weather – as is typical of colour trends every year.
