In an age where we refuse straws, cart our shopping around in reusable totes and style out a water bottle like it's this season's Chloe bracelet bag, it’s no wonder we’re also looking for ways to reduce the environmental impact of our beauty routines.

While investing in eco-friendly make-up and cruelty-free skincare choices is one thing, hair upkeep is slightly more tricky. By default hair salons aren’t exactly sustainable ventures - just think about the water wastage, energy use and plethora of chemicals in all that pastel rainbow hair dye - but taking steps to make these processes greener is possible.

Check out our eight favourite sustainable hair salons doing it right...

1

Glasshouse

It’s likely you’ve spotted Glasshouse’s minimalist interiors on Instagram, but this Hackney salon is about much more than just a photogenic aesthetic. Specialising in modern colour and cuts using organic and natural ingredients, Glasshouse ticks a number of boxes when it comes to sustainable credentials.

They use reusable and recyclable hair towels, their Organic Colour System is made using carbon efficient methods in a UK based factory, and they have a shop stuffed with some our favourite eco-friendly bands including RMS, Ilia and Austin Austin.
