Ahead of Monday night's much-anticipated British Fashion Awards 2019, the British Fashion Council (BFC) has announced that they will be bestowing one particular British designer with a very special honour.

Sarah Burton OBE, will receive the Trailblazer Award during Monday evening's ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall.

Burton, 45-years-old, is the current Creative Director of Alexander McQueen, which is both one of the Duchess of Cambridge's favourite brands, but also her choice of wedding dress designer.

Sarah Burton worked closely with the Duchess to create the Victorian-inspired, hand-appliquéd ceremonial gown which so delighted the waiting audience.

Her Trailblazer Award will recognise all of her personal and visionary work to date, for the Alexander McQueen brand, but also for championing UK-wide craftmanship. In the past year alone, Burton has drawn on the expertise of the fabric mills of the North of England, Mallon linen and Irish beetling.

What is more, on the top floor of the McQueen flagship store in London's Bond Street, Burton has created a unique community-building experiential space, intended to foster emerging talent and students throughout England. To put it succinctly, she's not just a brilliant designer, but she works hard to foster the future of UK talent.

Caroline Rush, BFC Chief Executive, said of the choice to honour Burton: 'Sarah’s empowering and narrative approach to shows and her focus on community and appreciation of craft, technology and English heritage is what has made her one of the most respected designers of our time. Her commitment to sharing her vision and expertise with the future generations of fashion designers has been remarkable. She’s an incredible source of inspiration for many generations to come and we look forward to celebrating with her in London in December.'
