If you're a celebrity stylist or styling assistant, you may need to put down the steamer: a new Cannes Film Festival dress code just dropped.

Just one day out from the star-studded event the 'Festival-goer’s Charter' has been unveiled and it includes some dress code updates that might herald some rather frantic phone calls between styling assistants and fashion houses.

The document outlines standard dress code details for the nightly gala screenings, telling guests: '...evening wear (long dress, tuxedo) is required. Alternatively, you may also wear “a little black dress,” a cocktail dress, a dark-coloured pantsuit, a dressy top with black pants; elegant shoes and sandals with or without a heel; a black or navy-blue suit with bow-tie or dark-coloured tie.' So far, so expected.

However, it goes on to ban both naked and voluminous dresses, beloved by the A-listers that typically walk the red carpet.

'For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the Red Carpet, as well as in any other area of the Festival,' the charter reads. 'Voluminous outfits, in particular those with a large train, that hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theatre are not permitted.'

Looking back at previous years' red carpet moments, full of Bella Hadid freeing the nipple and Naomi Campbell taking up space in Valentino couture, it looks like few celebrities will fit the new brief. And what if they don't? Well, this charter states plainly they simply won't be let in.

Of course, this isn't the first time the film festival has raised eyebrows for how it treats and what it expects of their guests - remember when Kelly Rowland was not-so gently ushered up the red carpet steps? Or when Kristen Stewart protested the then dress code mandated heels by walking bare foot? Let's see if the stars are willing to be sartorially manhandled this year, shall we?
