When it comes to putting together a royal ensemble, it’s no surprise that creating a unique and elegant look fit for a princess doesn’t exactly come cheap.
Of course, that’s not to say Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle aren’t afraid of the occasional high street purchase and have recycled several outfits on more than one occasion.
But Meghan Markle’s Royal Ascot debut yesterday afternoon served as the perfect opportunity for the Duchess to show off her fashion credentials with some serious financial backing.

Celebrating exactly one month since her wedding to Prince Harry, Meghan opted for another custom Givenchy dress made by creative director Clare Waight Keller. The 47-year-old designer became close to the royal after she was bestowed with the honour of designing her wedding gown earlier this year.
The dress of choice for Ascot? An ivory-button front Givenchy shirt dress.
Given that Givenchy crepe midi dresses retail currently for around £1,775, this seems like a fairly good estimate for the bespoke creation.
She teamed the look with a now sold-out Givenchy belt (similar here), costing £310, and a pair of black leather Balenciaga Knife Pumps. While the black pair aren’t currently available online, their monogrammed equivalent retail for £715.
The Duchess also wore a pair of large yellow gold and diamond stud earrings from Birks jewellery which cost a whopping £1,350, and carried a black Givenchy Satin Clutch with Jewellery Clasp which is on sale for £1,390.
Adhering to strict Royal Ascot dress code which strongly encourages women to wear hats/headpieces, Meghan topped off her look with a Philip Treacey monochrome hat.
While the headpiece is available online from the designer’s website, the price is only given on application. However, a similar black bow-embellished sinamay hat is currently being sold for £525.
The total estimated cost of Meghan’s Royal Ascot outfit? A staggering £6,065.
