By her own admission, Jasmine Jobson has had ‘a beautiful week’.

To recap, on Sunday evening in London - days after her 29th birthday - the actor was awarded the Supporting Actress Television BAFTA for her portrayal of fan-favourite Jaq in Netflix’s Top Boy. On Thursday, she arrived in Cannes to make her red carpet debut at the Film Festival.

Jobson is in the French city for the screening of acclaimed director Andrea Arnold’s hugely-anticipated film Bird, in which she stars alongside Barry Keoghan, Franz Rogowski and Nykiya Adams. While little is known about the film, and the premiere was its first viewing, we do know that it culminated in a seven-minute standing ovation at the festival.

‘This is a massive, pivotal moment in my career,' she told us. 'I was literally at the BAFTAs a few days ago, I came home with a BAFTA and now I'm here in Cannes. I's been it's been a whirlwind. I can't lie, I’m very overwhelmed and very excited.’

And she should be. ELLE UK caught up with Jobson on the heels of her incredible week as she was getting ready for the premiere. Adding to the excitement of the occasion was, of course, the look comprising of a custom Louis Vuitton black high-waisted long skirt with a small train and leather suspenders over an embellished silver crystal bandeau top.

Jobson had been in ‘constant communication’ with her stylist Cheryl Konteh about the look and was thrilled with the result when she saw it for the first time. ‘Nicolas Ghesquière is transformative and the epitome of modernity. [Konteh] and I wanted something young and cool with a modern take on a traditional tuxedo while also adhering to the formality of the occasion,’ she explained. ‘I love to be involved on every level. We have so much fun during the fittings as this is where the magic happens, working with the LV team and amazing atelier who are so meticulous. Attention to detail is everything to us.’

The look was completed with black satin Vuitton sandals, De Beers jewellery and for glam, a sleek and elegant up-do and a glamorous smoky eye. ‘I don't really wear make-up that often because I prefer to keep a fresh face and I've never really been a make-up girl. But when it comes down to massive events like Cannes and the BAFTAS, I mean, who's not going to enjoy getting glammed up?' she told us.

And how was she feeling about her Cannes debut, especially during such a mammoth week for her? ‘Who doesn't want to be in Cannes?’ Jobson laughed. ‘Everybody wants to be in Cannes and I'm just so grateful to have worked alongside Andrea Arnold and it was such a beautiful experience,' she said, adding how excited she is to be reuniting with her fellow cast members and to see the film, in full, for the first time.

Any nerves over the occasion are eased thanks to Jobson's relaxed getting ready process, aided by the company of her stylist and glam team who ‘feel like family’ now, she said. ‘I am sitting here in a suite on the Riviera in Cannes and it's phenomenal. We have some old school garage on the go, we're sipping our orange juice, eating some croissants and Louis Vuitton chocolates. We're living the life right now,’ Jobson joked.

After the premiere, the celebrations will naturally continue. ‘I will be celebrating with everybody from Bird, and I'm super excited because I haven't seen them since we wrapped filming. It's a perfect end to a very crazy week . I’m very grateful to be here and it's just the cherry on top.’
