It’s a well-known truth that Dakota Johnson is one of the best dressed celebrities to have graced this earth in the last decade, thanks in large to the help of her stylist, Kate Young. In recent years, the actor has ‘won’ the sartorial stakes in an array of sheer, plungeneck and figure-sculpting dresses while never failing to succeed in portraying an effortless and casual flair to dressing.

This spring/summer, Johnson has been photographed on the set of her upcoming rom-com, The Materialists, wearing everything from straight-leg Nineties-inspired jeans to light-wash, barrel and boyfriend styles. Paired with oversized white shirts and trainers, floral blouses and kitten heels, to simple tank tops and oversized blazers with sunglasses, Johnson’s modus operandi for jean wearing would seem to be to remain comfortable and casual, yet intentionally on-trend.
One of our favourite ‘Johnson jean’ moments was back in May, when she teamed a pair of leather brogues with a leather mid-length jacket and a bag, styled over a white tank top and flared light wash jeans.

Another came in June when she attended the Film Independent Presents screening of her film Daddio wearing low-rise ‘mom’ jeans, styled with pointed toe maroon-hued stilettos, a brown thin belt, a white tank top (sense a theme here) and an oversized black blazer.
The latter has become a staple look in our wardrobes this summer amid the ongoing topsy turvy weather we’ve been facing and is loved by everyone from Margot Robbie to Hailey Bieber.
The biggest style notes we’re taking from Johnson’s love of denim of late is to experiment with different styles and complement them with an arsenal of basics: a white tank, leather jacket, black loafers, Adidas Sambas trainers, minimal jewellery, a leather bag, and a black blazer.
Speaking to ELLE UK in 2022, Johnson told us that she’d ‘never understand low-rise jeans again’. ‘And I don’t know if that’s coming back but… please no.’
