It was a big night for Sabrina Carpenter last night [Wednesday September 11]. As well as performing at the 2024 VMAs, the singer also won her first ever Moon Person award, collecting the 'Song of the Summer' prize for her hit ‘Espresso’.

But that wasn't the only win she claimed at the MTV Video Music Awards, as we're officially crowning the singer our queen of the red carpet for the stunning ensemble she wore for the occasion. Specifically, a vintage Bob Mackie gown that oozed old Hollywood glamour.

Little wonder why, as the very same dress was previously worn by the one and only Madonna when the 'Material Girl' attended the 1991 Oscar Awards. No big deal. (Read: a very big deal!).

While we’re used to seeing the star in micro shorts, sky-high platforms and '60s era baby doll dresses, Sabrina took her pop star aura to a whole new level on the red carpet. Working again with her longtime stylist Jared Ellner, the strapless white design is covered entirely in shimmering crystals and beads with additional jewels bedazzling the plunging sweetheart neckline. The pop star tied her look together with yet more sparkle in the form of De Beers jewellery, including a collar necklace with a drop pendant.

Fun fact: Miley Cyrus also opted for vintage Bob Mackie to perform at the 2024 Grammys following her first ever win for Best Pop Solo Performance for her hit song 'Flowers'. Perhaps there's luck sewn into the designer's archival gowns?

For reference, here's Madonna wearing the dress more than 30 years ago back in 1991:

Madonna's worn a lot of jaw-dropping looks in her time – that Jean Paul Gaultier conical bra, anyone? – but her Bob Mackie Oscars gown is easily one of her most famous ensembles ever. She performed her Best Song winner 'Sooner or Later' from Dick Tracy at the awards ceremony and arrived with Michael Jackson as her date, all while wowing in her homage to Marilyn Monroe.

Sabrina, too, channelled Marilyn in her beauty look. Her blonde hair was full of bouncy curls paired with her iconic bangs. Her icy eye shadow, soft winged eyeliner, and deep ombre lip combo complimented the gown perfectly. Nothing short of iconic.
