Jean Paul Gaultier's Most Iconic Moments: From Madonna's Cone Bra To All Things Breton
Beloved by Madonna, Catherine Deneuve and Kim Kardashian, French designer Gaultier recently announced his retirement

On January 17, 2020 fashion's enfant terrible Jean Paul Gaultier announced his imminent retirement.
'This show celebrating 50 years of my career will also be my last,' Gaultier told Twitter, 'But rest assured Haute Couture will continue with a new concept.'
Though the cheeky Frenchman has hinted that the Gaultier brand will endure after his recession, this news heralds the end of an era.
In the last half-century, the now-67-year-old been responsible for iconic works on both the fashion stage and on screen, including the cone bra, 'tattoo skins,' an unparalleled embrace of the breton stripe and Jourdan Dunn in a custom pregnancy-bump corset.
'He has been a true innovator in his craft and the fashion world has been made better by his experimentation.' Shrimpton Couture founder, vintage aficionado and Gaultier fan Cherie Balch told us. 'He does not compromise. Not from the first days when the world did not understand what he was about until, now, fifty years later. He has been a trailblazer and his exit from the runway will be mourned.'
To celebrate the designer beloved by the likes of Catherine Deneuve, Madonna and Kim Kardashian, we've taken a look, with the help of knowledgable Balch, at his most iconic moments.
