It's been nearly 20 years since Crocs - rubberised clog shoes with optional slingback - first found their way onto tootsies. And while early-adopters used them to squelch through boggy gardens, for their post-mud-bath hoseability, they've since penetrated the fashionverse.
To first behold, they seem an unlikely shoe to be making their way to fashion week, but they've now had runway exposure a few times, thanks to some collaborating brands with serious clout. From Christopher Kane's crystal encrusted clogs through to LA brand Chinatown Market, Crocs have seen incarnations spanning high fashion through to streetwear, with a few musical team-ups in between (Justin Bieber and Post Malone have both designed a Croc).
And now, as if we thought clogs covered in astroturf were the most inventive of the bunch, the Balenciaga croc era is upon us, and these shoes are setting the internet ablaze.
It's not the first time Crocs and Balenciaga have joined forces. In 2018, we were treated to the platform croc by the luxury style house, but this year's offerings are even more clickbaity, with the stiletto croc taking the world's most functional shoe into an unfathomably impractical place.

Behold, the stiletto croc. A chance to see the world's most functional shoe take on a new impracticality. For Balenciaga's Spring 2022 collection, the luxury fashion house has once again teamed up with Crocs, producing both the croc stiletto and also croc boots.
Liberty London x Crocs, 2020
In Spring of 2020, Crocs unveiled a collaboration with historic British department store Liberty London. The retailer issued a series of clogs and slides, in three different prints, with a silk scarf (the like of which Liberty is famous for) embellishing some of the designs.
Chinatown Market x Croc, 2019
LA-based streetwear brand Chinatown Market have now teamed up with Crocs a few times, but their first collaboration saw them produce this astro-turf covered design, playing with the original purpose for the shoe, garden-friendly footwear.
Pizzaslime x Croc, 2019
Who said clog-shoes were just for feet? In 2019, Pizzaslime teamed up with Crocs to produce two crossbody bags.
Balenciaga x Croc, 2018
Balenciaga saw the Christopher Kane x Croc collaboration and raised it to the power of 50. Literally. In 2018, the luxury fashion house debuted their first Croc pair-up as a set of super high platform shoes, with a 10-inch midsole and encrusted with charms.

Alife x Croc, 2018
Streetwear brand Alife brought out the inbuilt-sock Croc, slightly defying the idea that crocs are a wipe-clean footwear solution.
Christopher Kane x Croc, Spring Summer 2017
Christopher Kane was the first haute house to venture into a partnership with Croc and so, one might argue that Kane is responsible for Croc-chic altogether. Marble print, in several different colours, the collab replaced the little removable charms with mineral stones and crystals.
