While everyone's debating whether or not that Daenerys twist was justified in the latest Game of Thrones episode, there was a subtle moment that you probably missed out on.

Before his execution by the Mother of Dragons, Lord Varys (RIP) is seen conversing privately with a little girl.

In the short scene, the girl informs Varys that "she won't eat" – clearly speaking about Dany – the Spider telling her to try again at supper.

The girl expresses fears that the Queen's guards are getting suspicious, though then repeats Varys' own mantra back to him: "The bigger the risk, the bigger the reward".

While we know that Varys had been sending ravens informing people of Jon Snow's claim to the throne, many fans have interpreted this scene to mean his betrayal went even further.

According to some, Varys was actually trying to poison Daenerys as part of his plan, though this obviously didn't quite pan out as expected.

Adding weight to this idea was an exchange between Ned Stark and Grand Maester Pycelle in season one, in which the latter says that poison is the weapon of "women, cravens, and eunuchs," Pycelle then not-so-discreetly saying that Varys was a eunuch.

Still, imagine the many lives he would have saved in King's Landing had he managed to carry out the plan.

Meanwhile, following Varys' demise, star Conleth Hill admitted that he felt his character had become "more peripheral" in recent seasons.

"That's been my feeling the last couple seasons, that my character became more peripheral, that they concentrated on others more," he said.

"That's fine. It's the nature of a multi-character show. It was kind of frustrating. As a whole, it's been overwhelmingly positive and brilliant, but I suppose the last couple seasons weren't my favourite."

Game of Thrones season 8 airs on HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK. Tune in to Digital Spy's Game of Thrones livestreams on Monday evenings, straight after each episode, on Instagram and Facebook.
