Amy Schumer has revealed she was forced to legally change her young son's name due to an unfortunate error.

Speaking on her podcast, 3 Girls, 1 Keith - where Schumer is joined by her best friends - the comedian spoke about her son Gene who turns one next month.

The Trainwreck actor welcomed her first child with her husband Chris Fischer last year where they named him Gene Attell Fischer.

However, she soon realised that when pronouncing her offspring's first and middle name in close succession it, unfortunately, sounded like the word, 'genital'.

'We realised that by accident we had named our son, Genital,' Schumer explained. 'Gene Attell sounds like Genital.'

Not only that, when put before Schumer's husband's surname, it sounds rather like 'genital fissure'.

Schumer's friend and guest on the show Love actor Claudia O'Doherty then chimed in explaining that after hearing about her friend's new baby her mother made the connection about the homonym.

Joking that she had to have a sit down with her baby and explain the situation to him, Schumer clarified that her son is now named Gene David Fischer after her father.

Following the podcast's release on Spotify, Schumer acknowledged the attention about her revelation, sharing a selfie of herself and Fischer sporting deadpan expressions with the caption: 'Oh, like you never named your kid Genital fissure!!!!!!!'

Schumer welcomed her son last May, months after appearing in a live stand-up show for Netflix, Growing, where she discussed her changing family ideals, suffering with extreme morning sickness (hyperemesis gravidarum) and joking about going through a public pregnancy at the same time as - the frequently, glowing and radiant - Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex.

When announcing her son's birth on Instagram, she even quipped: 'Our royal baby was born.'
