Update 02/02/21: Elizabeth Chambers 'Heartbroken And Devastated' Over Accusations Against Ex-Husband Armie Hammer

Over the past few weeks, Armie Hammer has been at the centre of a social media scandal after alleged leaked messages purported to be from the actor - many featuring disturbing and explicit sexual private messages - surfaced online. Following this, several women have come forward with allegations of abuse too.

Hammer has denied the allegations, referring to them as 'bullsh*t' and 'online spurious attacks' in a statement where he also confirmed he would be exiting the upcoming Jennifer Lopez romantic comedy, Shotgun Wedding (which you can read more about below):

'I’m not responding to these bullsh*t claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for four months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic,' Hammer said in the statement.'Lionsgate is supporting me in this, and I’m grateful to them for that.'

Over the past fortnight, Hammer has also pulled out of a planned TV series called The Offer as well.

On February 1st, Hammer's estranged wife Elizabeth Chambers made a statement alluding to the allegations against the Call Me By Your Name actor for the first time. Hammer and Chambers were married for 10 years before announcing their separation in 2020, the couple share two children together.

Posting a picture of a beach at sunset, the chef and TV star says she has spent the past few weeks 'trying to process everything that has transpired', without mentioning her former husband's name.

'I am shocked, heartbroken, and devastated,' the mother of two wrote. 'Heartbreak aside, I am listening, and will continue to listen and educate myself on these delicate matters. I didn’t realise how much I didn’t know.'

Clarifying that she stands with 'any victim of assault or abuse and urge anyone who has experienced this pain to seek the help she or he needs to heal', Chambers said she won't be commenting any further on the ongoing scandal and will be focusing on her children, her work and 'healing during this incredibly difficult time'.

Chambers' post was met with supportive messages from famous friends including Busy Phillips, Selma Blair and Olivia Munn, who wrote: 'One of the strongest people I know. Your kids are beyond lucky to have you.'

Original story 14/01/21: Armie Hammer Exits Upcoming Movie With Jennifer Lopez Amid Social Media Scandal

Armie Hammer has pulled out of an upcoming film with Jennifer Lopez after alleged leaked messages purported to be from the actor surfaced online.

Over the weekend, several accounts uploaded disturbing and explicit sexual private messages - some of which are particularly concerning - which they claim were sent by Hammer towards several women. The authenticity of the messages has not been confirmed and the actor himself has referred to them as 'bullsh*t'.

Hammer has now spoken out on the messages, sharing a statement with several outlets including The Hollywood Reporter, in which he simultaneously announces that he is exiting the upcoming Lionsgate film Shotgun Wedding in which he was due to star as Lopez's fiancé. It is now believed that this role will be recast.

'I’m not responding to these bullsh*t claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for four months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic,' Hammer said in the statement.

'Lionsgate is supporting me in this, and I’m grateful to them for that.'

A spokesperson for the production company also confirmed Hammer was leaving the project, stating: 'Given the imminent start date of Shotgun Wedding, Armie has requested to step away from the film and we support him in his decision.'

Hammer is best known for his roles in Call Me By Your Name, The Social Network, On The Basis Of Sex and most recently Netflix's adaptation of Rebecca starring Lily James and Kristen Scott Thomas.

In September, Hammer confirmed he was separating from his wife of ten years, Elizabeth Chambers, who he shares two children with.

In a joint statement shared to Instagram, the couple said: 'It has been an incredible journey, but together, we’ve decided to turn the page and move on from our marriage. As we enter into this next chapter, our children and relationship as co-parents and dear friends will remain our priority.'
