Bridgerton actress Golda Rosheuvel has revealed that a fellow actress once suggested that she avoid speaking out about her sexuality, despite being openly gay.

The British actress is currently starring as Queen Charlotte in season two of Bridgerton, which hit Netflix on March 25.

In a new interview with Out magazine, Golda said that she was warned by a fellow lesbian actress that her sexuality could 'ruin' her chances of making it big.

'I remember being told… that [being out] was going to ruin my career,' she said. 'I mean, it's bulls**t.

'It revealed a lot about her and her insecurities and what she was going through.'

While enjoying small roles in shows including The Bill, EastEnders and Luther, Golda's big break didn't happen until she was cast in Netflix's hit series Bridgerton in 2020.

Opening up about how the unsolicited advice impacted her, she continued: 'I think it really empowered me; it really made me look at myself and go: How do I want to be? How do I want to represent myself in the world?'

Meanwhile, Bridgerton has faced some fan backlash over its portrayal, or lack thereof, of LGBTQ+ sex and relationships.

When asked if Benedict Bridgerton's (Luke Thompson) sexual fluidity will be explored in future seasons, or at least, his flirtation with it, showrunner Chris Van Dusen said the following to Digital Spy (along with other press):

'With Benedict, he gets to be a part of this whole other world, this artsy space with all these colourful characters, and I think, as a second son, he's been given a certain amount of freedom. It's been so interesting for me to see what he's been able to do with that freedom. So I hope definitely that the show will continue in that vein.'
