Ellen DeGeneres has added herself to the long list of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s famous celebrity friends, revealing she paid the royals a visit over the summer to see their newborn baby, Archie Harrison.

During Monday’s season 17 premiere of the TV host’s eponymously-titled talk show, Ellen opened up about her trip to the UK earlier this summer with wife Portia De Rossi and meeting up with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

‘I just want to say: It was an honour for them to meet me,’ she admitted, describing the pair as ‘so amazing’, ‘so down-to-earth’ and the ‘cutest couple’.

During the trip, the comedian said that she also got to feed and hold the couple's four-month-old son.

‘He weighs 15 pounds—which the exchange rate, I believe, is $17 here,’ she joked, telling an audience member that she didn’t feel it appropriate to take a picture of the young royal.

However, the 61-year-old admitted that she did draw a picture of Archie, adding that he ‘looks like Harry’.

‘He has a body, but I just did the face for y'all,’ she said of the drawing. ‘He actually has a perfectly circular head. He looks just like Harry and he had more hair than I did at the time.’

Ellen also spoke out about the recent criticism of Meghan and Harry for having taken two private jets for their summer holidays in Europe last month, with some describing them as hypocrites given the Duke’s comments on the climate crisis.

‘I see them get attacked, and it's not fair,’ Ellen told her viewers before referencing the criticism of the pair.

‘They're just two of the most down-to-earth compassionate people. They're doing so much good for the world. Portia and I talked to them about all the conservation work they're doing for wildlife, and they're doing all this work in Botswana for elephants, and I love that. And they like what I'm doing for the gorillas in Rwanda. So, we're going to all do something together.’

Last week, Prince Harry defended his family’s use of private jets during the launch of an eco-tourism project in Amsterdam.

‘I came here by commercial,’ he told the press. ‘I spend 99% of my life travelling the world by commercial.

‘Occasionally there needs to be an opportunity based on a unique circumstance to ensure that my family are safe - it's generally as simple as that.’
