The Queen is known for keeping many things – political opinions, fashion critique, personal jokes with her family – in her life to herself, but once in a while she lets out a nugget of information that we can relate to.

On Wednesday, the 93-year-old opened the new premises of the Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospitals in London and met with several young children having braces fitted.

Opening up about her own experience of having 'train-tracks,' the Monarch told the children: ‘I had wires, luckily it was a very long time ago.’

Queen Elizabeth is one of several royals to have worn braces over the years. As teenagers, Prince Harry, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie also rocked the 'metal look'.

The Queen’s visit marked her first in London since returning from her winter break in Sandringham, Norfolk over the Christmas period.

The official visit also saw the Queen telling children who have enjoyed art therapy sessions to help ease their anxiety before undergoing procedures that they had ‘very good crowns!’. The children made their homemade headwear ahead of the royal’s visit.

The visit comes amid news that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will no longer carry out their royal duties from March 31, according to Buckingham Palace.

On Wednesday, Prince Harry and Meghan reportedly announced via a Sussex spokesman that they ‘will be in the United Kingdom regularly’ and will return to the UK from Canada for a series of events in late February and early March.

The couple’s final royal engagements include the Commonwealth Service on March 9, at which they will join the Queen at Westminster Abbey.

As there is no precedent on such royal separation, the royal family and the Sussexes have agreed to an initial 12-month review to ensure the arrangement works for all parties, according to the Evening Standard.

Last month, the Queen released a statement to announce that she supports her grandson and Meghan’s decision to step down as senior royals.

‘I want to thank them for all their dedicated work across this country, the Commonwealth and beyond, and am particularly proud of how Meghan has so quickly become one of the family,’ a segment of her statement reads.

Harry, Meghan and their son Archie are currently believed to be staying in Canada.
