If you’re pretty much over singing ‘Happy Birthday’ (twice) while you wash your hands thoroughly during the coronavirus pandemic, then Will Ferrell is here to mix things up a bit.

On Tuesday, the Anchorman star appeared in a clip on James Corden’s Late Late Show Homefest to give viewers a tutorial on how to freshen up their sanitation routine, in order to achieve the recommended 20-seconds of hand washing, as recommended by the NHS.

‘I have been washing my hands obsessively as I’m sure all of you have, and they tell us we’re supposed to spend at least 20 seconds washing carefully,’ Ferrell says in a clip shared on Twitter.

‘A lot of you mark the time by singing “Happy Birthday”. But you know, that’s not the only song you have to sing.’

The actor continued to sing a medley of tunes including Snoop Dogg’s ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’, Rihanna’s ‘Diamonds’ and George Michael’s ‘I’m Never Gonna Dance Again’.

Ferrell isn’t the first celebrity to show fans how they’re washing their hands at home.

Last week, actress Olivia Wilde shared a video of her friend and fellow Hollywood star Dakota Johnson on Instagram washing her hands with the help of her boyfriend, Chris Martin.

‘Olivia! Hey! It’s Dakota, thank you so much for asking me to tell you how I wash my hands because I’ve been waiting my whole life for someone to ask me to do that,’ the 50 Shades of Grey star jokes in the clip.

After a few seconds of watching the video did we realise that they are, in fact, Martin’s hands in the clip which are washed with soap and used to ‘clean’ Johnson’s hair.

The singer’s ‘M’ and ‘A’ tattoos in honour of his children, Apple and Moses, are clearly visible in the video.

‘First I’m going to turn on the tap,’ Johnson says as the Coldplay frontman accidentally splashes her.

‘I hose it down,’ she laughed. ‘I really like to hose my hands down with the spray because the water gets the dust off.’

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump addressed the US public to discuss the severity of the coronavirus pandemic.

‘I want every American to be prepared for the hard days that lie ahead,’ he said during a press conference.

‘This is going to be a very, very painful two weeks.’

According to data collected by the Johns Hopkins University, the death toll in the US from the virus outbreak has surpassed the official tally in China, with more than more 3,400 fatalities recorded.
