Adele has set the record straight on her relationship status following the resurfacing of rumours that she is dating Skepta.

Following the Londoner's hosting debut of Saturday Night Live this weekend, reports circulated in magazines and tabloids claiming to 'confirm' Adele and Skepta's supposed relationship.

But Adele has now addressed the rumours head on in an Instagram post. Hours after the reports, the singer shared a photo of herself hosting SNL and thanking the cast and crew for their support before saying she'll be stepping back from the limelight again, until next year anyway - perhaps when her long-awaited fourth album is released?

'I’m going back to my cave now to be the (single) cat lady that I am! Peace out til next year,' the mother-of-one wrote, subsequently drawing a line in the sand over the rumours.

This is not the first time the rumour mill has sprung into action over the two Tottenham natives. Neither Skepta nor Adele have previously addressed the rumours, but have spoken affectionately about each other over the years.

In 2016, the ‘Shutdown’ singer opened up about their friendship in ES Magazine, saying: 'Adele texts me all the time and keeps me in check. She speaks to me about how things are going.’

The same year, Adele posted a picture of Skepta and wrote ‘Tottenham Boy’ alongside a heart emoji, which he later retweeted with the words ‘love you’ and a red rose emoji.

Adele is also believed to have attended the grime star’s 37th birthday during a night out at the Crystal Maze experience in London last year.

In June, fans got excited when the two appeared to be sharing messages on Instagram, deemed 'flirty' by some and consequently sparking rumours again.

When Adele shared a picture of herself wearing the custom-made black Givenchy dress she wore when she headlined Glastonbury four years ago to re-watch her set on what would be Glasto weekend, Skepta left a cryptic comment for the Grammy winner.

‘Finally got your Instagram password lol,’ the rapper wrote.

Adele replied to the comment with a winking emoji and a red heart emoji, leading many to speculate that the pair might be more than friends.

‘I'm here for it,’ one fan commented.

In September 2019, the ‘Set Fire To The Rain’ singer filed for divorce from her ex-husband Simon Konecki citing irreconcilable differences and requested joint custody of their son Angelo.

In May, Adele appeared to ‘speak’ about the break-up for the first time via a meme.

Sharing side-by-side pictures of herself crying during her 2016 Brit Award acceptance speech and another during her Carpool Karaoke appearance that year, the caption reads: ‘When you catch yourself in your feelings then you remember who you are.’
