‘We’ve experienced the highest highs and lowest lows together. Watching you carry our children has been so moving and humbling. I’m in awe of the strength you’ve shown through the most challenging moments.

‘What an awesome gift it is to be able to bring life into the world. We’ve experienced the miracle, the power and joy of this gift, and now we’ve deeply felt its inherent fragility.’

Opening up about the inspiration behind the song, Legend added: ‘I wrote this song because I have faith that as long as we walk this earth, we will hold each other’s hands through every tear, through every up and down, through every test.

‘We promised each other this on our wedding day seven years ago, and every challenge we’ve faced has made that promise more powerful, more resilient.

‘Our love will remain. We will never break,’ he concluded the post, before thanking the public for their support in recent weeks.

‘I’m sure Chrissy will have much more to say about this when she’s ready. But just know we’re grateful and we’re sending love to all of you and your families,’ he noted.

On October 1, Chrissy Teigen shared the 'deep pain' herself and husband Legend were experiencing after the pre-term death of their third child, a boy named Jack.

Through a series of emotional photos, shared to Instagram from her hospital bed, the TV presenter was seen crying and being comforted by Legend. Teigen confirmed that she was no longer able to carry her baby to term, the blood loss having proven too grave for him to stay alive.

Since the news, both Teigen and Legend have been understandably taking some private time for themselves to deal with their grief, largely staying off social media and out of the public eye.

On Wednesday October 15, Legend returned to the stage for the first time at the 2020 Billboard awards.

The Grammy and Oscar-winning singer performed a rendition of his ballad 'Never Break', which features lyrics attesting to the strength of the couple's relationship, such as: 'We will never break/ Built on a foundation/ Stronger than the pain.'

When Legend began playing keys on his piano, he dedicated the song to his wife, saying: 'This is for Chrissy.'

Introducing the 'All Of Me' singer's performance, Billboard host and Legend's The Voice co-star Kelly Clarkson said: 'My heart, obviously all of our hearts, go out to you both at this very difficult time. And I'm thankful that you continue to share your special talent with us.'
