The Golden Globe Awards will now integrate foreign-language and animated films into its Best Picture category.
Historically, the ceremony has deemed any feature ineligible for the top prize if less than 50% of its dialogue is presented in a non-English language, but thanks to a recent backlash, change is now afoot.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Ali Sar commented: 'As an organisation composed of journalists from all backgrounds, the HFPA created the best foreign-language category to ensure films with subtitles were getting just as much recognition as English-speaking films in the US market.

'As we re-examined our guidelines this year and listened to the industry, we decided to adopt new approaches for future shows ensuring these films receive the attention they deserve. Language will no longer be a barrier to recognition as the best.'
Over the last couple of years, titles such as Bong Joon Ho's award-sweeper Parasite, Minari, The Farewell and Pain & Glory would have all been favoured contenders for Best Picture, but were instead entered into the Best Foreign Language Film category.
It's great to see that the noise is finally making a difference.
