Climate activist Greta Thunberg has reacted to the news that controversial social media personality Andrew Tate has been detained in Romania following their public ‘feud’ on Twitter.
On Thursday, Tate was detained in Romania as part of a human trafficking and rape investigation, the Independent reports.
The former kickboxer is infamous for his far-right and misogynistic opinions, which previously led him to being banned from Twitter in 2017 after he stated that women ‘bear responsibility’ for being sexually assaulted. Tate has since been reinstated on Twitter but remains banned on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.

In recent hours it’s been widely speculated online that his arrest would not have occurred had he not posted a video about Thunberg on social media. Earlier this week the 36-year-old social media user seemingly poked fun at the environmentalist after bragging about the emissions of his ‘33 cars’, which include Bugattis and Feraris.
Tate asked for Thuberg’s email address ‘so I can send a complete list of my car collection and their respective enormous emissions’. The 19-year-old replied: ‘Yes, please do enlighten me. email me at smalld***energy@getalife.com.’
Tate went on to share a video response to the activist while dressed in a red dressing gown and claimed that Thunberg was referring to herself in her own post. Several pizza boxes from the local Romanian pizza shop Jerry’s Pizza featured in the video, which many are now speculating led the authorities to finding Tate, who moved to Romania five years ago, per the Independent.
On Friday, Thunberg responded to news of Tate’s arrest, writing on Twitter: ‘This is what happens when you don’t recycle your pizza boxes.’
The Independent reports Tate has been detained on suspicion of human trafficking, rape, and forming an organised crime group, according to prosecutors.
Tate has been under investigation since April and the publication reports he will be detained for 24 hours.
