Following the success of the 2009 novel and 2011 film (featuring Anne Hathaway and that decidedly precarious Northern accent), it’s unsurprising that Netflix is clamouring to develop a sequel to its recently-released series, One Day.

The 14-episode limited series, which is based on David Nicholls’ bestseller of the same name, has tugged on heartstrings across the country following its release on the streaming service on February 8. By Valentines’ Day 2024, One Day had become the most-watched piece of content on Netflix, having been watched by 9.9 million households. Since its publication, the novel, which is now back in the bestseller charts, has sold over 3 million copies in the UK and 6 million worldwide, in 40 languages.

Given that we're still waiting on official confirmation of the series' sequel, nothing is certain as yet, although it is important to note that, given the popularity of One Day, Mod initially rejected the idea of accepting the role of Morley.

In an interview with ELLE UK, the actress admitted the reason as to why she turned down the role. ‘I loved the book so much…I think I was scared. This Is Going To Hurt had just come out, and it was a lot. I was overwhelmed.

‘This is not an exaggeration’ says Mod. ‘A month later I woke up in the middle of the night and thought, “I've made a terrible mistake!”’

The next day she called her agent and begged for an audition and, thankfully, the rest is history.
