Celebrities haven't always been A-listers. Before they had chauffeurs, walked red carpets and got the best tables in restaurants they were, well, just like you and I. They caught the bus, couldn't get in to fully booked hot spots and had ordinary, pay-the-bill vocations. We know, it's hard to imagine.

But what jobs did they have pre-fame? From funeral directing to ice-cream scoopers, they've done it all. What were these celebrities' first jobs? Read on to find out.

Dua Lipa

Her life has been one filled with hits and milestones and, much like most young musicians today, her musical career began at age 14, when she began covering songs by other artists on YouTube.

Following her move back to London from Kosovo age of 15, she began working as a model.

In 2013, Lipa starred in a television advertisement for The X Factor.

Before he became the breakout crooner from One Direction or Gigi Hadid's 'Zaddy', Zayn Malik moonlighted as a boxer from the age of 15 to 17.

Before his musical career took off, Malik revealed in an interview with VMAN that he had planned to pursue a career as an English teacher.

Kerry Washington

The actress held numerous jobs alongside pursing acting including waitressing and teaching.

She revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that she was actually still a supply teacher across a few New York City public schools during the filming of the dance cult classic movie Save The Last Dance.

Gemma Chan was on track to become a lawyer after securing a prestigious placement at the firm Slaughter and May.

However, after some soul searching, Chan told The Guardian that 'I realise that what had initially attracted me to law was watching films that were courtroom dramas and barristers giving these amazing speeches.'

Although initially the decision to change course was 'difficult' for the actress to explain to her parents. It's clear the sacrifice is one that paid off.

Halle Berry

It will probably come at no surprise to anyone, that Halle Berry was a wildly successful contestant in beauty pageants before she began setting the big screen a blaze.

She finished as the first runner-up in the Miss USA pageant and coming in sixth in the Miss World 1986.

It was not all smooth sailing to star down however as Berry revealed in an interview with People, that she was actually homeless in her first few weeks in New York and slept in a homeless shelter and then in a YMCA before making it in acting.

Harry Styles

It was no secret throughout the filming of the hit show The X Factor that Harry Styles had a part-time job at the W Mandeville Bakery in Cheshire.

If the shop's Harry posters and banners plastered over it during his time on the ITV show were not enough proof, the star actually revisited the bakery in 2013, during the filming of the One Direction Documentary This is Us.

Victoria Beckham may be affectionately known as 'Posh Spice' but anyone who follows the designer on social media knows Posh loves a good laugh.

It's quite likely that her dry sense of humour is what lead to her take an interesting role in BBC sex education programme in 1986 called Body Matters - as a rollerskating sperm.

'My first summer job wasn’t exactly glamorous, but it taught me some valuable lessons,' the president wrote. 'Responsibility. Hard work. Balancing a job with friends, family, and school.'

The job in question - scooping ice cream at a Baskin-Robbins as a teenager in Hawaii- sounds like much more fun than Topshop in busy shopping centre roles of our youth but we hear you Obama.
