Soon to be your latest TV obsession is Prime Video's We Were Liars. A psychological thriller which follows 17-year-old Cadence Sinclair, who, following a head injury, finds it difficult to remember the horrying accident that occured on her family's private island when she was 15. As long held family secrets, trauma, plots of revenge and deceit begin to the surface when the family is reunited once more, the truth about Cadence's accident and a surprising revelation about herself is revealed.
Adapted from E. Lockhart's young-adult novel, the author recently opened up about the process of adapting the series for TV in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. 'There was a creative team [the series' developers Julie Plec and Carina Adly Mackenzie] attached that had made a ton of super bingeable, sexy, fun television that I really enjoyed, and also both of those people had read the book multiple times, had a lot of very thoughtful things to say about it.

Emily Alyn Lind as Cadence Sinclair Eastman
Who is Cadence Sinclair Eastman? She is the eldest granddaughter of an American family empire. Naturally smart and adventurous, she is the series' protagonist. The current Cadence is very different to how she used to be - now a shell of her former self, she is haunted by vague memories of disturibing events that occured on her family's private island two years ago.
For the most part, Cadence is similar to how she is presented in the books, however, there is one major deviation in the series. As the narrator, the show largely forgoes her pattern of comparing her family, friends and current situation to fairytales.
Who is Emily Alyn Lind? An American actor, she is best known for starring in Revenge, The Babysitter and Gossip Girl.
Shubham Maheshwari as Gat Patil
Who is Gat Patil? Gat is Cadence's best friend. A New Yorker, Gat is worlds away from the life and wealth that Cadence and her family possess. Despite this, he is one her closest allies.
Who is Shubham Maheshwari? An up and coming actor, he is best known for featuring in Haven Dust.
Esther McGregor as Mirren Sinclair Sheffield
Who is Mirren Sinclair Sheffield? Mirren is one of the more reserved and quiet characters in the series - that is until she stumbles on a horrying family secret and is thrust to the forefront.
In the series, she has a high school senior named Drake Loggerhead, whereas in the series she has a fleeting romance with Ebon (Dempsey Bryk), a boy who works on a boat.
Who is Esther McGregor? McGregor has previously played roles in Babygirl, Bleeding Love and High School.
Joseph Zada as Johnny Sinclair Dennis
Who is Johnny Sinclair Dennis? A member of the Sinclair family, Johnny is a charismatic, confident and mischievous. For Dennis, summer is all about fun, that is until he is held accountable as home truths surface themselves. In the series, he is openly gay, as well as having a whole scene dedicated to him coming out - this is not a storyline in the book.
Who is Joseph Zada? Born and raised in Australia, Zada has featured in a number of roles including The Hunger Games, Total Control and Invisible Boys.
Caitlin FitzGerald as Penny Sinclair
Who is Penny Sinclair? She is Cadence's mother, who is currently in the navigating a difficult divorce. Her sense of identity and worth is based on her family's name and wealth.
Who is Caitlin FitzGerald? FitzGerald has previously starred in Masters Of Sex and Sweet Bitter.
Candice King as Bess Sinclair
Who is Bess Sinclair? The youngest of the Sinclair sisters, Bess is a perfectionist. A hard worker, she is devoted to her husband, children and seemily perfect family image which is beginning to crack.
In the novel, not much of Bess' love life is mentioned, however, in the series, has an affair with 'Salty Dan' a harbour employee.
Who is Candice King? King is best known for starring in The Vampire Diaries, Legacies and The Originals.
Mamie Gummer as Carrie Sinclair
Who is Carrie Sinclair? The eldest of the Sinclair sisters, Carrie is a reformed party girl who deeply loves her two sons, however, a trip back to her family's island will threaten that.
Who is Mamie Gummer? She has portrayed a number of roles in TV and film projects such as The Good Wife, Cake and Side Effects.
Wendy Crewson as Tipper Sinclair
Who is Tipper Sinclair? She is Harris' wife, and the mother of Penny, Bess and Carrie.
Who is Wendy Crewson? A Canadian actor, Crewson has appeared in The Doctor, What Lies Beneath and Room.
David Morse as Harris Sinclair
Who is Harris Sinclair? He is the patriarch of the Sinclair family. He found wealth and success from building a media empire. A charming and likeable man, Harris may be harbouring deep secrets.
In the book, there is mention of Harris' decline in his mental health, however, we are never given the story behind it, unlike in the series when we see him hit his head after a bad fall.
Who is David Morse? An American actor, he is best known for starring in St. Elsewhere, The Good Son and The Negotiator.
Rahul Kohli as Ed Patil
Who is Ed? He is the uncle of Gat and is in a relationship with Carrie, hoping to mary her one day.
In the series, Ed seems very hopeful of proposing to Carrie, and even asks Harris for his blessing, whereas in the series, we eventually learn that Carrie turned him down.
Who is Rahul Kohli? He is a British actor who has previously starred in The Haunting Of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass and Next Exit.
